Bevmo Didja Know

In honor of it being Friday, I thought I’d impart a little wisdom for those who will be imbibing this weekend.

Last week Shrek and I took advantage of Bevmo’s 5 cent sale (going on now to November!) to stock up on a little Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

After the wonderful Rex Hill 2006 Pinot Noir I had in Vegas I couldn’t wait to get home and crack a bottle of pinot open. Wow, was I disappointed. Because I couldn’t justify spending $37 on a bottle of Rex Hill (for a special occasion, yes, but not for just any old day) we went with a $20 bottle of Quarry that looked promising.

It tasted like dirt. Really. I don’t know if we just got a bad bottle or what, but it was undrinkable. Even Shrek who isn’t quite as picky as I found it undrinkable, so we took the bottle back half full (we didn’t even drink the glasses we poured!) plus the unopened bottle we’d received for 5 cents and got a full refund. I’ve never taken wine back but Bevmo has an awesome return policy where if you’re not completely satisfied with your purchase you can bring it back for a full refund. They didn’t even ask us what was wrong with it. Of course we turned right back around and stocked up on even more wine which is where they getcha, so really it’s a win-win situation.

Happy Friday!

Hard to beat Rexhill and obviously, you didn’t. But, there are lots of good wines, and some greats, and wine research can be heady and more fun than the library (which is also some fun::).

We have a the same situation. Terrible bottle of wine. Did you have a receipt for it? Of course i threw mine out. I had bought 8 bottles in total. (different types thank goodness)

Hi there Nicki ~ You didn’t like the Quarry, either?! I did have my receipt to receive the refund, but the way I see it, you have nothing to lose by going in and asking them without it. Especially if you bring your original half-full bottle and your second 5 cent bottle with you. I just wouldn’t be too upset if they can’t honor it without a receipt and then you’d know to hold onto it for next time. Good luck! (PS I recently discovered that Trader Joes has this policy on all of their food stuff and wines, roo — If you don’t like it, bring it back for a refund!)
