Note to Self

Note to self: If you’re going to drive all the way to SF with the intent to dine at a specific restaurant, make sure they’re open! …My friend Sarah recently returned from a 10 day “South American Sampler” trip and we wanted to catch up over lunch at Roy’s. Only thing is, upon making the 45 minute drive (which flew by due to the catching up in the car) and arriving at our destination, we discovered that Roy’s is only open for dinner on Saturdays! Fortunately, Osha was just around the corner and as usual, it was fabulous! Sarah and I both got a few drinks (I had the Thailander which has mango puree in it — amazing!) and shared Fresh Summer Rolls, a Tuna Tower, and Angry Prawns.

Later that night, Shaun and I attended a performance by the Peninsula Symphony featuring pianist Taylor Eigsti and guitarist Julian Lage at the Flint Center in Cupertino. While the venue’s acoustics and ambience left much to be desired, we really enjoyed the music. The instrumentals were a nice change of pace from our usual musical selections. After the orchestra opened with a West Side Story number, both Taylor and Julian demonstrated some serious talent on their respective instruments. They took turns playing some modern, jazzy numbers and then did a few together that had our feet a tappin’ and wanting to get up and move! I was dually impressed that both artists were less than 25 years old. Damn. Should’ve stuck with those piano lessons! :P Many thanks to Yelp for the free tickets!
