After Sabbath on Sunday, Jetsetter came over for tennis and golf. I know, could we be any more country club-ish?
Actually… we got yelled at on the course because we had 5 people in our group and were consuming outside alcohol. Whoops! In our defense, we got the go-ahead when we checked in for 5…
Anyways, Choi’s Kitchen has been on my radar for awhile now. It always catches my eye each time I pass it on my way to and from the Korean market. It’s always busy, and Sunday after golf was no exception when the 5 of us decided to check it out.
{Sides!}
{Kalbi – Korean Short Ribs}
{Spicy Squid}
At 8 pm on a Sunday, our wait was approximately 15 minutes. Once seated, we ordered
- Giant Seafood Pancake
- Jap Chae
- Korean Short Ribs
- Spicy Chicken
- Spicy Squid
- Spicy Kimchi Tofu Stew
Pros:
- This place is popular so I’m assuming the the ingredients get turned over pretty consistently which means FRESHNESS! Everything tasted and looked fresh, anyways!
- Generous portions
- Good authentic flavor
- Quick service
Cons:
- The ambience isn’t great, but then I usually don’t go for Korean BBQ for the ambience
- Dirty floors (Sarah’s comment when she sat down: “I think a baby sat here before me!” due to the amount of rice on the floor.)
- Stingy with water
The verdict: I received several, “Thanks for finding this place!” and “Good find!”
I certainly enjoyed the food! The price was a decent, too ($22.50 pp with tip — no alcohol) considering how much I ate and how many leftovers we took home. However, with SO MANY Korean BBQ joints located along El Camino, I’m not ready to return just yet! It really just stoked my appetite to try more!
