In addition to work, my week has been busy with boundless activities!
Monday
I discovered a new running route – 5.71 miles in 41:24. That is right on target to beat my Turkey Trot 10K time!
Immediately following I met up with the girls for 2 hours of tennis. The sun setting at 9 pm forced us call our game and dinner wasn’t until 10 that night! Trader Joes Chicken Strips, pasta with marinara sauce, and an apple. Mmmm but at the same time ooof I really need to stop eating so late!
Tuesday
Gym – 3o minutes on the treadmill + 15 on the elliptical + 10 on the upright bike + 10 minutes of weights
Shrek accompanied me to the gym but did his own thing. We are both get in-get out, no-nonsense types when it comes to the gym which explains my approach to working out. I want to spend as little time doing them as possible! Don’t get me wrong, I actually am someone who enjoys them, but of course there are other things I’d rather be doing! Which makes me wonder about some people… There is this one girl I see at the gym EVERY SINGLE TIME I go. I don’t have a set schedule so sometimes I am there in the mornings, sometimes the evenings and my days vary. But without fail she is already there when I arrive, floating along on some machine and she’s still there when I leave. From what I can see, she does the same monotonous routines each time and gives very little effort since she doesn’t appear to break or sweat.
After showers Shrek and I hightailed it over to Trader Joes and Target to run much needed errands. I’ve been so busy lately I haven’t had time to shop! Our fridge, freezer, and cupboards were down to the bare essentials — rice and spaghetti! Before TJ’s we made a detour at Sweet Tomatoes. I’d never been before, but it’s right next door to TJ’s so I’ve passed by it often and it’s always packed. It’s basically an all-you-can-eat buffet for $9.99 with an emphasis on the salad bar. It’s ginormous. And fresh! I was really impressed with how abundant and fresh everything was, especially since it was about 8:30 pm by the time when we sat down to eat. The only thing missing for me were apples and fruit to top my salad with.
In addition to the salad bar, they’ve got a baked potato bar, bakery with cornbread, rolls, bran muffins, etc, a variety of made from scratch soups, and a dessert bar with make your own sundaes and apple cherry cobbler. I combined the two and took some of the cobbler and made it a la mode with some ice cream from the sundae bar
I’m glad I tried this place, but I will probably not make an effort to go back. I can make a salad to my liking for about half the cost and half the calories — I always feel compelled to get “my money’s worth” at buffets which more often than not means overeating which isn’t a very healthy approach.
Wednesday
Another treadmill + 20 minutes elliptical + 10 minutes biking work out!
I actually ran on a 5.5 incline but I’m too lazy to change this
I try to change up my workouts so I’m not doing the exact same thing every day and let me tell you, that 0.5 increase in incline is no joke! No Shrek this time either – he was at the golf course with the boys. After the gym I had just enough time to shower, grab some grub (Whole Foods pre-made grilled pepper steak + sauteed bok choy and shiitake mushrooms + a glass of chardonnay) before Sarah swung by to pick me up for golf. We’re trying to make it a habit to meet up at the driving range with Shrek after his golf game so as not to lose our swing and whatever we learn at our Saturday golf lessons. I am so happy with how consistently I am connecting with the ball now!
Thursday
Today the plan is to hit the trails and meet up with the girls for tennis again. Hopefully I will eat dinner before 10 pm tonight! On a similar note, I need to stop reading food blogs and watching food shows right before I go to bed. Too often I find myself craving whatever they’re chowing down on and I’m not even hungry!
