Weekend Recap in Photos

Friday evening Shrek and I enjoyed a relaxing happy hour on our veranda…

…Followed by a healthier spin (note the homemade salad instead of fries) on a fast food dinner of McDonalds and Taco Bell.

Saturday we hit up the Deanza Flea Market where I scored a gorgeous vintage top for $5. Well, $10 if you include $5 parking.

Food Cart Fail: We attempted to grab lunch at SJ Eats but it was cruh-azzy! The wait was over an hour and you couldn’t tell which line was for which truck. Actually, everyone was packed like sardines so you couldn’t even tell there were lines. Bad planning on the organizer’s part. It was their inaugural event so hopefully they learned for next year that you cannot cram 9+ food trucks + their faithful followers into a lot this size.  We got outta there fast…

… and discovered some awesome Vietnamese sandwiches and dim sum to go at Huong Long Sandwich and market in East San Jose thanks to my Yelp Iphone App.

On Sunday I was able to jog 2 miles and my leg felt great. Woohoo! Progress! Really, I had to hold myself back since my legs automatically wanted a faster pace. Hello muscle memory! And thank you Body for healing so quickly. Last weekend I was still hobbling around with a limp. So happy that rest and patience paid off!

Immediately following my jaunt around the neighborhood, I showered, made myself a smoothie accompanied by a lox bagel sandwich and headed over to Peets Coffee to meet up with my favorite university English Professor. Can scarcely believe 5 years has passed since we last conversed face to face! We’ve been sporadically in touch over the years and just recently she reached out to me with an invitation to join her tennis league. The original plan was to play tennis Sunday, but with my leg currently out of commission we settled for a 2 hour chat instead. Can I just say how refreshing it is to speak freely with someone you respect after knowing them strictly on an academic basis? And by freely I mean we got into talking about topics way outside of academia and closer to home. It was wonderful to have that barrier down (we’re on a first-name basis now :) ) which allowed us to get into our personal lives and truly catch up.

Straight from coffee I headed over to Susie’s home for lunch and Scrabble. En route I picked up a salad at Whole Foods to accompany our wine and pizza. Our wine, by the way, was a 2009 Kirkland Chardonnay. Yes, Krikland as in Costco where I picked it up. Not only was it lovely, it was only $8! Going back to stock up ASAP. That evening, Shrek and I met up at Tee Nee Thai with the same friends with whom we went to Napa with last weekend.

And there you have it!
