Fresh, Frozen, and Fabulous Food Finds

My favorite pre-packaged food finds.

How often do you grocery shop? I feel like I’m at Trader Joes at least every other day, but today will mark three days in a row for me. For one — and don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Trader Joes — their produce doesn’t last as long as other markets’. My friends and I have had deep philosophical discussions about Trader Joes bananas. For one, their $0.19 a piece which is awesome. However,  I end up making more banana bread than I’d like just because they brown so fast! They’re like, green-green-green-green-4 hour period where they’re ripe-brown. Thus, since I’m the only one who eats them, I buy only two at a time which means more  visits. Despite, they have some really great stuff which I regularly stock in my fridge and freezer. For example, last night I made a dinner — a large salad and pizzettas – consisting entirely of Trader Joes purchases.

Organic Baby Lettuce, arugula, shredded carrots, red onion, Fuji apple slices, cottage cheese, edamame, olive oil and vinegar

Pre-shelled and ready in 5 minutes if you count the time it takes to boil water! Found in the freezer aisle.

So delicious and only 140 calories each. I may have eaten three yesterday; one with lunch, one for a snack, and one with dinner after my workout. Found, at least in my local store, with the pre-made sandwiches, salads, and sushi.

Other Trader Joes foodstuff I regularly pickup?

You know I’m picky when it comes to Thai. I’m even more picky when it comes to frozen entrees. Therefore, it’s a huge deal when I say that this might just be THE BEST frozen dinner ever. The flavor is rich and spot on. Microwavable and ready in 5 minutes. Approximately 600 calories and $2.50. Found in the freezer aisle.

Looks a little funky when you microwave it, but the flavor is there and I like the pot stickers. Another freezer aisle find.

Surprisingly great! Light, fluffy, and ready in 3 minutes. Really, this can’t be beat. Their Jasmine and Basmati rice are wonderful, too. Again, freezer aisle.

These Kobe beef patties are AMAZING. However, I have to limit them to once every so often due to their nutritional value… yikes! Find ‘em in the freezer aisle.

Okay, confession: I have yet to try this. I’ve tried 3 other types of Trader Joes Pad Thai and haven’t been impressed, but I’ve got high hopes for this one. Found in the freezer aisle.

My afternoon pick-me-up ;)

While I’m at it, some Costco finds:

My jamba alternative. I add one banana and vanilla flavored protein powder. Delicious! $9.99 for 10 smoothies.

Surprisingly great flavor and consistency. Ready in approximately 6 minutes in the microwave.

And finally, from the Korean Market:

I’m weird and actually salivate at the thought of sushi ginger. Whenever I’m at restaurants I always ask for extra, so I figured I’d just pick up a jar to snack on.

LOVE their seaweed salad and jap chae, pictures. Kimchi too, but not pictured.

Okay, now I’m hungry!

Do you have any recommendations for me to try at either Trader Joes or Costco?

  1. Ah, but avoid those Kobe beef patties. They deserve to be illegal. 21g of saturated fat! Think of them as assassins masquerading as hamburger patties.

  2. i’m going to try some of these! i go there all the time and never knew that they had so many good thai food options. i better not introduce trav to the kibe beef patties…
