Wine Time

Told ya I’d be back.

Saturday night I rounded up a few of my girlfriends for wine tasting at my all time favorite wine bar, Press Club in San Francisco. I know, I know, I’ve already posted multiple times about this place (see here for details on the venue and a full review) but each time I go I find it’s like a fine wine and just gets better with age. Something that helps? Going often enough to be remembered by the wine reps behind the counter. For example, it was fun walking up to Alexis at Fritz Winery and introducing her by name to each of my friends who, by the way, I think get better with age, too. Wouldn’t you agree?

Me and my friends T, S-Q, Jetsetter and K’s hiding out in the back.

It’s a bit of a drive from the South Bay so Shrek graciously agreed to be DD for the night.

Shrek’s friend B-dawg came along, too. Turn that frown upside down! (I was keeping him from getting more wine.)

Ray and everyone at Press Club did such a PHENOMENAL job hosting and making us feel welcome. I’d been in touch with them since my last visit and they reserved an area for my friends and me with a complimentary bottle of wine.

When Ray brought out my favorite white wine at Press Club, Hanna’s 2009 Sauvignon Blanc, I was so touched yet baffled — how did they know it was my favorite?! Shrek surmised that they probably looked up my payment history to see what I’d ordered before. Ah-ha, that would do it since I usually make a beeline for Hanna to start with a glass there. Well done, PC, and what a treat to have an entire bottle to share with my friends! Thanks!

The Sauvignon Blanc which is light and crisp paired perfectly with this ridiculously delicious Lombchopper cheese plate. The spicy jam topper really made it.

Cheese selection.

S-Q and me. She’s the one who taught me how to make this.

Jetsetter who just completed 1/8 of her Master’s degree. So happy she came out to celebrate with me!

T and me. I decided that I need to come up to SF more often just to spend time with her.

S-Q loved the 2007 Fritz Russian River Reserve Chardonnay (can you tell by the photo below?) but I think the hit of the night was another Fritz — their Russian River Pinot Noir is divine. I think our party bought at least a bottle or two just from all the glasses we kept going back for.

K and S-Q posing with a bottle of Fritz Chardonnay.

Me and S-Q again. I guess I just can’t get enough of her! And she can’t get enough of Press Club either! She already emailed me to say how fun it was and that she wants to go back again soon. I’m with ya!

Jetsetter, T, and me.

Jetsetter’s boyfriend who has met up with us a few times here told me that my name is now synonymous with Press Club in his mind. I told him I was honored. I know I’m six months out but I already told Shrek that I want to have my birthday here. Again. Just wonder when they are going to switch out the wineries they currently house because I”ll need to stock up on Fritz beforehand. (I found a Hanna Sauvignon Blanc at my local Costco.)

Anyways, until next time…! -M.

  2. Press Club is great. I’ve been there three times now. Most recently, we had a work holiday event there. I like to recommend this place to people visiting SF that don’t have a spare day to drive up to Napa.
