When I first discovered White Shallot back in January I briefly mentioned it in a post along with a myriad of other meals which my parents and I indulged in during their visit. Since then I have become a bit of a White Shallot regular and feel that this place is definitely deserving of its own post. Shrek’s nieces think so, too:

Mini cheeseburgers frites
Steak frites
Shrek and I consider this our little hidden gem of a restaurant. It’s a pleasant hole-in-the-wall located kitty corner to Santana Row and next to Bevmo on Stevens Creek Boulevard. (Tip: their wine list isn’t the greatest but you can certainly take advantage of the Bevmo next door and BYOB for a $10-$15 corkage fee.)
White Shallot serves French and Vietnamese cuisine, literally. No fusion restaurant here, which is a nice change from all the fusion eats popping up elsewhere. Instead, the menu’s split down the middle, French cuisine on one side and Vietnamese on the other. (View their menu here.) Another nice touch? Their menu’s seasonal and changes with whatever’s available at the local farmers markets. The flavors this place dishes up are exquisite and are what keeps me coming back again and again since the service can be slow at times. Always pleasant, just sometimes slow. I’ve had to cancel post-dinner coffee and tea in the past because we had someplace to be and our server was perfectly nice about it. That incident aside, since my introduction to White Shallot I’ve introduce it to many others. Thus, I’ve been able to eat my way through their menu… a bit of a shock to Shrek since I have a habit of ordering the same items every time from the other restaurants we frequent.
Below are some photos of my favorite plates at White Shallot, my absolute favorite being their Shaking Beef and Beef Pho. But if you can, do yourself a favor and go back again and again to try all of their plates…. your taste buds will thank you!

Shaking Beef
Beef Pho. (What I refer to as ‘Fancy Pho.’) Pomme frites pictured in the background.
Salmon and crushed almonds… another favorite of mine.
Love their steamed mussels in a light white wine garlic and shallot cream sauce.
Tuna Sandwich
Hangar Steak and mashed potatoes
Creme brulee
Profiteroles… puff pastries filled with ice cream!
Birthday Strawberry Shortcake
Not pictured: Crab Cakes and Apple Tart. I am seriously picky when it comes to seafood. Crab cakes, especially, seeing that both my mom and Shrek make them from scratch. White Shallot’s crab cakes are equally outstanding as they use a lot of crab meat. (A lot of restaurants will try to cheat and use a lot of bread crumbs.) The Apple Tart is a seasonal dessert and comes with a scoop of Hagen Daz Vanilla Ice Cream. It is scrumptious! Give them a try if they’re available.

mmmm; I will definitely be looking into this place!
