‘What are we playing for?’

I think my tennis meet ups have progressed into something else altogether. Don’t get me wrong, we still get in an hour plus of tennis once or twice a week, but…

It all  began with a simple, “What are we playing for?” a month or so ago when 4 of us first met up for tennis. Because really, everyone knows that we all play better, try a little harder, when something is at stake. It started innocently enough with the losing doubles team having to bring snacks for the following meet up. Carrots, grapes, granola bars, water… beer. This quickly escalated to the losers having to buy drinks for the winners the next time we got together, which led to drinks immediately following tennis, which led to drinks and dinner and playing for who/which team gets to decide where we go for these after our matches.

Last night we ended up at a swanky little wine bar near downtown San Jose followed by more wine and dinner at TeeNee Thai… in our sweaty tennis outfits. But it was so fun! The only bummer is getting home at 10 pm and having to shower. Oh, and having to get up early the next morning for work. (Goodbye early morning workouts!) I was hurting just enough this morning to stop at McDonald’s for a pick-me-up McMuffin, hash brown, and orange juice. And to think we started this whole tennis meet up routine to be a little more active and hopefully lose some weight in the process. At least, that was my intention! Though, I am really grateful for what has transpired from these meet ups… 4 new friends! (We have since added a 5th to our tennis group since its inaugural match.)
